The Evolution of MMA (or at least watching it)

In the beginning, there was no way to see good physical violence without getting drunk and hitting on a biker’s old lady. And then God created mixed martial arts.

  • First, you had to find a bootlegged video tape (they had those back then) from someone who knew someone who had the tape
  • Sometimes you were able to find these tapes at places called video stores.
  • Then along came the Internet. But don’t get excited, dial-up speed was too slow to allow streaming video of any kind. The Internet allowed you to purchase many of these videos and wait for delivery to your house.
  • DVDs were invented and you were able to sometimes find these at Best Buy or Circuit City (they had those back then).
  • This period lasted longer than it should have.
  • And then Dana White decided to put it on TV as a reality show!
  • Very rapidly we moved to having real fights on regular TV.
  • Shortly after, Dana decided to have a fight every 4 and a half days. And now you can’t find a seat at the sports bar because Tapout shirt guy needs to ask fifteen questions about why the fighters aren’t body slamming.
